What it is for
TASTEZIP is a next-generation archive manager that combines a secure Rust-based core with high-performance compression technology. It picks the right processing approach for your files and system, and brings compression, extraction, integrity checks, job management, and performance measurement together in one intuitive environment.
Designed around Rust, which prioritizes memory safety and stability. It selectively combines proven C/C++ codecs and Assembly-optimized paths to pursue both safety and performance.
Analyzes the type and size of your data, from documents and source code to executables and media, to choose a suitable codec and compression settings. Rather than relying on a single method, it provides an efficient execution path for your working environment.
Uses multiple CPU cores and available instruction sets to efficiently process large files and many files. You can also adjust the thread count and memory usage to match your system resources and goals.
Provides .tzp, TASTEZIP's default archive format. It aims for high performance and an extensible compression structure, and major formats such as ZIP and 7z are supported as well.
Choose from Fast for quick processing, Balanced for a mix of speed and ratio, and Maximum for the highest compression ratio. Get the right result for your purpose without complex settings.
Reduces memory load with a streaming design that processes files sequentially and efficient I/O buffers. It's designed to cut unnecessary wait times on SSDs and other fast storage too.
Checks the archive structure and target paths before extracting. It detects path traversal, suspicious symbolic links, and conflicts with existing files to protect your original data and system.
Files with the same name in the target folder are never overwritten automatically. You choose whether to overwrite, skip, or rename.
Checks archives for corruption and verifies checksums, and confirms the result is sound after compression or extraction. If a problem is found, it clearly explains the cause and the affected items.
See the progress, speed, remaining time, and status of multiple compression and extraction jobs at a glance. Per-job priority, cancellation, and retry help you manage even complex workloads efficiently.
Shows CPU, memory, and disk usage alongside compression speed while a job runs. Adjust the memory limit and background job priority to share system resources evenly with other programs.
Measure compression and extraction throughput, compression ratio, CPU usage, and elapsed time yourself. It aims for reproducible performance measurement, so you can compare results under the same data and system conditions.
Provides a dedicated .tzp file icon and file association, and lets you start compression and extraction quickly from the Windows Explorer menu. Current-user integration settings can be applied without administrator rights.
File browsing, drag and drop, new archives, extraction, checks, and job settings are laid out on consistent screens. Light, dark, and system themes and display density settings are also supported.
Detects your operating system's display language and applies a suitable language by default. The language you choose is saved and kept for the next launch.
